Establish the address you will use
Your county affects vehicle work, taxes, voting, schools, utilities, and many local services. Gather lease, closing, utility, identity, and insurance records before scheduling visits.

Transfer your driver’s license or ID
Georgia’s official guidance says new residents generally must apply within 30 days of becoming a resident. Review document requirements before visiting a DDS Customer Service Center.

Title and register vehicles
The Department of Revenue directs new residents to their County Tag Office and also uses a 30-day window. Insurance, title, emissions, and county requirements can affect the exact document set.

Update voting and civic records
Use the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page and registration guidance. Do not assume a driver’s-license transaction completed every civic update you intend.

Finish county and city setup
Confirm utilities, waste service, school enrollment if relevant, local parking or pet rules, and any occupational or property requirements with the responsible local government.
Common mistakes
Do not look for one Georgia “DMV.”
- DDS handles driver licenses and state IDs; DOR and county tag offices handle vehicle titles and registration.
- Do not wait until the end of an official deadline window to discover a missing document.
- Do not assume county, city, school, and utility boundaries are identical.
- Do not rely on a third-party checklist when an official page gives the current document requirements.
